My name is Kevin D. Miller, author of Heart of Steel: Based on a True Story. On this blog I will post news and updates regarding the book and also useful and educational posts on a variety of topics such as writing, self-publishing, web design among other interesting topics.

Heart of Steel was released on Amazon on August 10, 2019. It is available in paperback and eBook and free on KindleUnlimited. The story is set in Southington, Ohio in the early 1920's. 12-year old Stanley runs for his life along a dusty country road, sent by his frantic mother to fetch the Sheriff. A scandal unfolds and carries Stanley and his siblings on a harrowing journey through a local orphanage in Warren, Ohio and a daring escape to freedom. Only true love can save Stanley from his tortured past.

In the early morning hours of September 13, 1920, a tragic murder takes place at the Pulchalski farmhouse in Southington, Ohio. It inspires the heart on how a young man’s devotion to his family pushes him beyond impossible odds and testifies to the perseverance of the human spirit.

The Search for the Grave Site of George Puchalski I had several goals for my recent trip to Warren and Southington, Ohio. One of these goals was to locate the grave site of my great grandfather, George Puchalski. Based on George's death certificate and a funeral listing in the Warren Chronicle in 1920, I was certain he was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Warren, Ohio. Now to find him. I left my home base in North Canton and traveled forty or so miles to Warren along with my father and brother. We made our way along Market Street towards the cemetery, gazing at old buildings and old homes and wondering if my grandfather Stanley had seen these same buildings and homes when he escaped the orphanage on his way to freedom. Finally Found the Exact Location of the Puchalski Farm

During my trip to Warren, Ohio, I spent a great deal of time searching for my Grandfather's farm in Southington where my Great Grandfather, George was murdered in 1920. I visited the Trumbull County Library where a couple of very helpful ladies in the Genealogy section located a census from 1920 showing the Puchalski family lived near a road called, Herner County Line Road. A road that runs around 8 miles in length. I took a drive and looked around, knowing my ancestor's farm was somewhere nearby.  My next stop was a visit to the Warren Historical Society. I gave them a copy of my book and told them my story. They were so intrigued by the story they went to work immediately, researching the history and trying to help me locate the farm. I visited the Trumbull County Records department and began finding records that led me to locating the deed to the property.
